Honest Talk About Preparing For Your Death
Fife House 490 Sherbourne St, Toronto, CanadaPlease join us for our next Community Forum. This time our topic will be: "Honest Talk About Preparing For Your Death." One day you're walking around living life...then the next day you feel a pain in your chest. You go to the doctor, who sends you to the hospital where you are told you have a terminal illness. They're not sure if you'll make it through the night. No one ever thinks this will happen to them but eventually our turn must come. What will happen to the money in your bank account, your possessions? Will anyone know what my final wishes are for my body? Do I want to be cremated or buried? Do I follow a certain religion? How do I arrange all of this? Join us for an in-person dinner and candid conversation with Kyle Vose, longtime HIV/AIDS and anti-poverty activist and worker, about his experience of being diagnosed with a terminal illness, preparing for end of life, and this destination that we all share. Our moderator for this conversation will be Ambrose Fan (ACAS volunteer.) This is our first in-person community forum in a long time, and we look forward to seeing you! Date and Time: Friday, August 25th, 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Location: Fife House, main floor community room (490 Sherbourne Street.) To register please contact: support@acas.org

QTAY Presents: Photography Club Field Trip to Japan Foundation Gallery Sept.9

Sept. 9, 2023 👉 Time: 11:30 am - 1:30pm EST 👉 Location: The Japan Foundation, 2 Bloor Street East, Suite 300 Toronto, ON M4W 1A8 👉 Cost: FREE (we'll go for snacks after, provided by ACAS) Hey friends! Our next Photography Club event will be a fieldtrip to the Japan Foundation Gallery for their exhibit A Sense of Movement: Japanese Sports Posters. This will probably more centred on graphic design than photography per se but the two fields definitely inform each other and it's such a great opportunity to both visit the foundation and see some fantastic prints! For more info, click the link below: https://tr.jpf.go.jp/gallery-visitor-policy/ ---- Co-presented by The Japan Foundation, Toronto and the DNP Foundation for Cultural Promotion, this is an exhibition that explores the connection between Japanese graphic design and sports. Prior to Toronto, the in-person presentations in Sydney (October 2021 – January 2022) and in Paris (December 2022 – March 2023) featured a selection of 31 posters by eight Japanese graphic designers. This exhibition then arrived in Toronto with an extended range of exhibits, a total of 71 pieces by 24 designers from young professionals who are currently active in the field to great masters who led the dawn of graphic design. The exhibition introduces the means by which these uniquely creative minds convey sport and its “sense of movement” through two-dimensional printed media. Here in this extended selection the compositional beauty, dynamism and humour expressed within these Japanese posters are communicated through the perspective of sports. You experience the fruit of Japan’s rich graphic design culture during the half century between the first Olympic Games in Japan and the present time. ---- If you have any questions or concerns, or would like more information, please email Greg [...]
