HIV self-testing is an accessible, anonymous and accurate way for folks in the @acastoronto community to know their HIV status and YOU can use them too! HIV self-test kits are available for free at readytoknow.ca and getakit.ca and through the harm reduction and HIV self testing programs at ACAS. In our latest HIV self-testing campaign, ACAS outreach worker Brian Mok @kan.___. and drag performer Sophie Stiquee @dj.esl talk about why HIV self-test kits are important.
Sophie Stiquee writes: “The free HIV self-testing kits offer a private and accessible way for folks to take better control of their sexual health. By normalizing self-testing, we reduce stigma and encourage everyone to prioritize their well-being. It’s a step towards a healthier, more informed, and empowered community.”
Brian Mok writes: “In our vibrant LGBTQ+ community, adopting HIV self-testing is akin to embracing the soothing warmth of self-love and care. It’s not just about personal well-being; it’s an expression of affection that ripples through our bonds with partners and the people who genuinely care about us. Choosing self-testing is a powerful act of self-love, a way of saying, “I value myself, my relationships, and my community.” It sets a culture in which open conversations about health become as natural as sharing laughter and joy. In this friendly and inclusive spirit, HIV self-testing becomes a beacon of love, lighting up our community with the promise of a healthier, more connected future for all.”
