Learn Taiko Drumming with Raging Asian Women!
Sound in the Spring with a hearty beat! If you've ever wanted to learn Taiko Drumming, now's your chance. Our partnership with RAW Taiko Drumming allows up to ten QTAY (18-29 years old, must be queer and/or trans as well as Asian but otherwise open to all genders/sexualities) to attend six free workshops on Thursdays from 7-9 pm EST from April 21st - May 26th. Priority will be given to folks who can commit to all 6 sessions, which will happen in person at their studio, the second floor of 1220 Dupont St. M6H 2A4: https://goo.gl/maps/p2rx1rQJyNf2mnVJ6If you cannot commit to all 6 sessions but can attend at least 4, let us know and we'll see what we can do. When You’re Ready: Cycle 4 Starts!
🌈 QTAY Presents: When You’re Ready CYCLE 4 ✨ Peer Leaders: Cho, Iz, and Kelly! WHEN: May 8th - June 19, 2022 On Sundays from 1-3:30pm EST On Thursdays from 6-8:30pm EST LOCATION: Zoom, potential for in-person meet-ups in late May/June pending safety and participant comfort WHAT IS THE WYR PROGRAM? When You’re Ready (WYR) is an interactive community-building program where East and Southeast Asian youth (ages 18-29) come together to discuss topics relating to their identity, with an emphasis on the whole idea of coming into your identity. STRUCTURE OF WYR We will be capping CYCLE 4 at 15 participants to facilitate an intimate environment where youth can explore and discuss these topics more in-depth. Please RSVP as soon as you can by filling out our form! We will be meeting twice a week, every Sunday from 1-3:30pm EST and every Thursday from 6-8:30pm from May 8th - June 19th (May 8, 12, 15, 19, 22, 26, 29 ; June 2, 5, 9, 12, 16) on Zoom. Starting in late May/June, pending COVID safety measures, participants may choose to meet in person on Sundays, where lunch will be provided. Until then, all sessions will be held on Zoom until further notice. We encourage participants to attend at least 8/12 sessions. If you already know this is going to be tough to do, please refrain from signing up so that we can prioritize folks who can attend as many sessions as possible, as there will be other opportunities and times to join WYR in the future. What does job searching mean when one is queer? Asian? What does searching for employment mean when you’re QTAY (queer trans Asian youth)? On Wednesday, May 18th, join QTAY on Zoom from 6-8 PM for a discussion and resource-based workshop around searching for employment and the challenges that go along with it! We’ll have a conversation around meaningful work, working as queer trans Asian youth, and share some tips and tricks around refining your search for work. Intersexionality: The Crossroads of Queer Asian Intimacy

Coming from Asian backgrounds, we may have had strict socio-cultural stereotypes of what intimacy is supposed to be. So what does dating and intimacy mean when one is queer or trans? What does it mean to navigate sexuality when one is Asian? Join the QTAY Peer Educators on Zoom, May 25, from 6-8 PM, in Intersexionality: The Crossroads of Queer Asian Intimacy, a workshop where Queer Asian folks can come together to learn about and discuss experiences of relationships and intimacy – sex-related and non-sex-related – through the topics of consent, harm reduction, and pleasure! Hong Fook Youth and Family Services partnering with ACAS to run a new monthly LGBTQ+ peer support program for LGBTQ+ Asian youth under 30. The peer support group offers a space for youth to connect and share their experiences around a variety of topics relevant to their lives, including LGBTQ+ and mental health. Together we create a supportive, non-judgemental environment that inspires hope, healing, and change. A queer Asian artist team is building a community Pride dragon for the Pride Parade. This project is an exploration asking ourselves: What does it look like to queer our cultures? How do we combine elements of both Asian and queer culture to represent our identities and to co-exist in harmony? You are invited to learn together about the history, background, and symbolism of the dragon dance.
