Understanding your blood work & Naturopathic medicine:

Nastasia Irons is a Naturopathic Doctor. She is currently a clinical resident at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. Her passion lies in chronic pain management, and men’s health. She spends most of her days at the college as a teaching assistant for various courses, and she supervises 4th year interns at the Sherbourne Health Center in downtown Toronto, as well as the Robert Schad Naturopathic Clinic in North York.

History of ACAS:

Dr. Alan Li a Community Based Research Fellow at Ontario HIV Network, a primary care physician at the Regent Park Community Health Centre, a community organizer and human rights activist. In his work, Alan strives to improve mental health, prevention and support services for members of ethno-racial communities infected and affected by HIV. His research focuses on issues facing ethno-racial communities, particularly issues related to men who have sex with men (MSM), immigrant and refugee communities, and the greater involvement of people with AIDS (GIPA).
Since the early 1980s, he has been the driving force behind Gay Asians Toronto. During his 20 years of work in the Toronto HIV/AIDS sector, Alan has provided valuable insights into often-over-looked segments of the population affected by the epidemic — for both service providers and researchers. In addition to creating and sharing knowledge exchange and providing superior services, Alan helped found the Committee for Accessible AIDS Treatment (CAAT). Alan also co-founded the Hong Kong 10%,Club, the first registered gay community organization in Hong Kong, and was the founding president of the Asian Community AIDS Services (ACAS).
He has been extensively involved in the Ontario Advisory Committee on HIV/AIDS (OACHA), a group that advises the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care. He was the founder of the Asian Community AIDS Services, and the multicultural Coalition against Homophobia. Alan was also the first openly gay National President of the Chinese Canadian National Council, an advocacy organization with 30 chapters across Canada.

Healthy Food with a Healthy Heart:

Michelle Heighington is a registered nutritionist with over eight years of specialized experience helping clients take a holistic approach to maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle.
A graduate of the Canadian School for Natural Nutrition and the University of Toronto’s medical anthropology specialist program, Michelle has counselled clients with a wide variety of medical conditions, including HIV/AIDS, diabetes, food allergies, women’s health issues, and digestive tract disorders. I have also worked with many people to overcome health issues related to chronic stress.
Dr. Joseph Steyr is a Naturopathic Doctor with an interest in endocrinology (hormones) and research relating to long term stress and the development of chronic diseases. He has a special interest in the endocrine system and how stress affects our mental functions like memory, mood and depression. As well as chronic health concerns such as diabetes, prostate health, fertility and menstrual irregularities.
