The Asian Community AIDS Services (ACAS) is a non-profit,
community-based organization. We provide education, prevention,
and support services on HIV/AIDS to the East and Southeast Asian-Canadian
communities. These programs are based on a proactive and holistic
approach to HIV/AIDS and are provided in a collaborative, empowering,
and non-discriminatory manner.

ACAS has identified a need to keep clients, volunteers,
and communities better informed about the events and programs
of ACAS. Our intent isto inform in orderto decrease isolation,
encourage communication and discussion about important issues
that affect us as Asian Canadians. We do not necessarily endorse
non-ACAS events or services. We strive to be as accurate
as possible, but we are not perfect. ACAS is mainly funded
by the Ontario Ministry of Health, Health Canada, The City
of Toronto, and AIDS Walk Toronto.

On Sunday, September 28, 1997, over 1 0,000 people are
expected to assemble at Nathan Philips Square for the start
of Toronto's 8th annual AIDS Walk. This event will provide the
opportunity for not only the public to express their commitment
towards the fight against AIDS, but will also allow for corporate
teams and businesses to do the same.
To date, Toronto's AIDS Walk has raised over 4 million dollars;
however, with our involvement, this number will continue to increase.
So come join us in our fight against AIDS! During last year's
AIDS Walk event, ACAS was represented by over twenty of its volunteers.
This year we hope we can do the same. A sincere thank you to
those of you who are returning to assist in this worthy event,
and also to those who are new; pledge forms can be obtained by
calling (416)340-WALK.
Once again, we will meet at 1 1:00am at Nathan Phillips Square,
on the south side of the pool near Queen street to introduce
ourselves and take pictures for our newsletter, Depending on
the number of participants, individuals will be scheduled to
hold our banner every 20 - 30 minutes. If there are any questions
concerning Toronto's AIDS Walk event, please contact William
at (416) 963-4300. We hope to see you there!
